Design of outdoor playground for kids
Kids are always interested in the fresh things all around themselves, so the most important design principle of the outdoor playground is “to see the world through kids eyes”. And there are several design guidelines:
1.Design according to the age
Play activities are often classified by the age of the kids. Kids from different ages have different play durations and contents, and thereby should have different outdoor playground equipment.
For age from 1-3 years old, their parents should stand nearby and watch them when playing, the kids do not have the idea of danger, so the safety is the top priority when choosing outdoor playground equipment. And the ground should be soft to avoid injury.
For age from 3-5 years old, their parents could have some distance to the kids and have some rest. The kids bodies are stronger and can use more types of outdoor playground equipment, e.g. slides and seesaw, or our excellent product “Children’s Outdoor Gym Equipment”.
For age from 5-10 years old, the kids can tell where the danger is and can protect themselves. They need more interactive play activities and body exercises. Climbing and swinging equipment (e.g. our “Outdoor Playground Slide Swing” product) will bring them more fun.
2.Design of the size
The size of the outdoor playground should be “small but fun”, too big playground will make kids feel tired easily when walking and playing from one equipment to another.
3. Design of the road
The road to each outdoor playground equipment should not be too long so the kids could come and play directly. The material of the road should not be very hard, rubber and sand are common choices to avoid most injuries. Also the width of the road should be enough for kids with skateboards or toy cars.
